Second Semester is here already!
***EXTRA CREDIT ALERT***
This Saturday, February 9th you have an opportunity to earn some extra credit. High School Students may see former child soldier, human rights activist and best selling author of "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier", Ishmael Beah speak at the Newport Beach Public Library.
These are the details:
- It is free for students...if you bring your NHHS student id card
- The event takes place this Saturday, February 9th from 11am-noon
- Doors open at 10:45am and seating is limited to 200 people
- It will take place at the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Avenue, Newport Beach in the Friends Meeting Room

- To receive extra credit you will do a write up about the event and turn it in by Friday, February 15th
- The write up must be 1 full page, typewritten, & include: the speaker's background & upbringing, issues addressed in the book, advice the speaker shared, your opinion (good or bad) about the talk, and 3 quality questions you would ask the speaker if given the chance

I know a lot of you are anxious to see your grade for the first semester...the grades have been posted on-line...although there seems to be a delay in the update. Please be patient! If there are not on-line to night they should definitely be on-line by tomorrow.
***Friday is the Battle of the Sexes Rally...boys wear blue & girls wear pink or red!
Here's what is happening this week:
US= New semester, new unit, new homework! We will be starting on chapters 10 & 11...the homework details and due dates will be posted later this week. You should plan on having a quiz the end of this week covering sections 1 & 2 from chapter 10...be reading your book!
PacRim/IR= Don't forget to bring your signed syllabus back to class on Wednesday. We will be starting our unit on Geography & Culture. As of now, there are no other plans for homework this week.
