U.S. History=    Your 2nd Quarter project will be assigned this week before the break.  A.P. Euro=     Test corrections on the Chapter 20 & 21 Exam must be completed the week by Friday, 12/20. You will receive a a take home essay assignment later this week that is to be completed over the break. You will also have the Chapter 22 & 23 Study Guides due on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

U.S. History=     There is  a Chapter 7 Quiz on Tuesday, 12/10 (for odd periods) & Wednesday, 12/11 (for even periods). Be sure that you read through the chapter & your notes to be prepared!  A.P. Euro=     Monday, 12/9 is the last day for test corrections on the Chapter 18 & 19 Exam. There is a test review at 5:30pm on Monday, 12/9 in our classroom; please have your study guides done in advance so questions can be answered & we can review together.   Your Chapter 20 & 21 study guides are due on Tuesday, 12/10...your test day! ***3rd period...please remember to be saving some of your money for Adopt-A-Family; we have a family of 5 (3 kids) and the plan is to have everything (money & gifts) brought in by Thursday, 12/12!

Remember that this week is the Food Drive at school! Non-perishable food items are being collected in 3rd period classes this week.   U.S. History=     2nd & 4th periods have their  Chapter 4 & 5 Quest (longer than a quiz, but shorter than a test) on Monday, 11/18. U.S. History=     Your 1st Quarter project was introduced and assigned on 10/8 & 10/9 (Native American Tribal Flier) and is due on Monday, 10/28 for 5th period & Tuesday, 10/29 for 2nd & 4th periods.      Additionally, your 1st Quarter Study Guide is due Wednesday, 10/30 (for 5th period) and Thursday, 10/31 (for 2nd & 4th periods) on that day you will be taking the 1st Quarter Exam. Remember the Study Guide was designed to help you be prepared for the exam, so please make sure that you do it ahead of time! A.P. Euro=   Your Chapter 16 & 17 Study Guides (with maps) are both due on Monday, 10/28. We will have a review in class and then take the multiple choice portion of the test! Expect a take home essay assignment, instead of an in-class essay this time around (details will be given in class).

Expect to see a new Study Guide this week since we are starting Chapter 3! A.P. Euro=   You have a Chapter 16 Vocabulary Quiz on Monday, 10/14!  Your Chapter 16 Study Guide (with map) was passed out last week and by the end of the week you will also have one for Chapter 17. They are both due on Monday, 10/28.

Be sure that you are working on those items now & not waiting until the night before to do all of the work!   A.P. Euro=   Your Chapter 14 & 15 Study Guides (with maps) are due on test day, which is Tuesday, 10/8! If you have questions please be sure to ask in advance so I can help you! Remember, there is an optional review session in our classroom at 5:30pm on Monday (the day before the test). Be prepared to write a full essay with this test.

U.S. History= You have a States & Capitals Quiz on Thursday, 9/12 (for odd periods) and Friday, 9/13 (for even periods)...be sure that you study! Also, you will receive the Chapter 1 Study Guide in class this week...due date TBA. A.P. Euro=  There will be a Quest (longer than a quiz, but shorter than a test) covering The Prince & Candide on Tuesday, 9/10. Additionally your essays on the two books are due to be turned in via www.turnitin.com by 11:59pm that same day. You do not need to bring a hard copy to class, just upload them to the site. The course number & password are written on the board in class. Please keep up with the reading schedule & do your best to answer the Study Guide questions as you are going through the reading.

U.S. History=   Your final study guides were given out and are due on Thursday, 6/13 for odd periods and Friday, 6/14 for even periods. Your textbooks and stamped work are due the same day! On that given day you will be taking the first part of your final. Part 1 of the final is on Thursday & Friday and part 2 of the final is on your assigned final day. Come prepared with questions you wight have about the study guides and the material on Tuesday & Wednesday.  A.P. Euro=    Your final group project is due on Friday, June 14th; please bring your textbooks to class by Friday as well (we will be checking them in to the library during  class). Additionally we will be finishing up the film we started last Thursday. June 14th is Flag Day!

U.S. History=   Three important things!       #1- Every class will be retaking the Chapter 17 & 18 Quiz (1st, 3rd, & 5th periods on Monday & 2nd period Tuesday) since people scored so poorly, I will then average the scores from the two and enter those grades. You should re-read chapters 17 & 18 (as I can tell that most of you did NOT read the chapters the first time around) in preparation as well as look through your notes on the 70s (Searching for Stability & Changing Society).       #2- Your final study guides will be given out (they were passed out to 2nd period on Friday) in class and are due on Thursday, 6/13 for odd periods and Friday, 6/14 for even periods. Your textbooks and stamped work are due the same day!       #3- Eight groups did not turn in a film...that is extremely problematic! STAR/CST Testing this week! Be sure you get a good night's rest before testing. Eat breakfast before you come to school...no one wants to be the person who's stomach was growling during testing! Read carefully and give your best effort...remember what I shared in class about the percentage correct you need to be in the "green zone". You CAN do it! U.S. History= Your focus this week should be on finishing your project that makes up 20% of your semester grade! The group Film Project is due on Friday, May 31st...no exceptions! The final piece of the project is the Film Festival that will take place on Thursday, June 6th in Beek Hall from 6-8pm (more details to follow). A.P. Euro= Your "Travel to a Moment in European History" Poster Project is due on Friday, May 31st. Please bring a color copy of your poster (8.5"x11") and your reflection on a seperate piece of paper to class on Friday. Be sure to read the tips on your assignment sheet and

U.S. History= You have a have a quiz on the 70s on Wednesday, 5/22 & Thursday, 5/23...so that means you should be reading from chapters 17 & 18 in your textbook! We are also preparing for CST/STAR Tests next week. A.P. Euro= We are now in the final days of getting you prepped for the CST/STAR (the California State Tests) exams by filling in some of the gaps about World History so you can score well! You were given a workbook in class on Tuesday...please answer the 5 questions on the following pages: 21, 36, 51, 71, 79, & 81, they are due on Thursday, 5/23. ***Also by Thursday, 5/23 you will need to sign-up for your topic for the "Travel to a Moment in European History" poster project!

Extra Credit Alert!

The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor will line the scenic trail at Castaways Park with 1,776 American flags this coming weekend in honor of military veterans. They are calling it the “Field of Honor,” and it is one of 16 similar efforts that will be sponsored by Exchange Clubs nationwide this year. This is the fourth year they have set up this display. As members of the Exchange Club have said, “It’s not pro-war, or anti-war, it’s strictly to honor our service men and women.” Being that we are coming up on Memorial Day which is a National Holiday honoring those who have fallen in the line of duty. I am offering 10 points of extra credit for you to go out and see this awesome display at the park located at Dover Drive and Castaways Lane. To get the extra credit please have someone take a picture of you near the statue (as seen in the photo below) on the bluffs with all the flags around. You may have the photo taken showing any direction that includes flags . This must be done today

Expect to have a quiz on the 70s on Wednesday, 5/22 & Thursday, 5/23...so that means you should be reading from chapters 17 & 18 in your textbook! A.P. Euro= The AP Euro exam is finally here! Be sure that you get a good night's sleep the night before the exam and obviously eat a good breakfast & lunch on Wednesday. Please stop by class at lunchtime on Wednesday to pick up your AP booklet & a couple of other little things I have for you (stop by even if you have your AP booklet from taking a prior test)! Be sure that you report to the small gym no later than 12:05pm and be sure to have extra pencils and pens on hand in addition to your student id (to be on the safe side). Do not plan on being done until sometime between 3:30 and 4:00; you are not allowed to leave early. After the exam we have 3 class days to get you prepped on filling in some of the gaps a

U.S. History= You have a Study Guide on Vietnam & the Counter Culture due VERY soon (Friday, 5/10 for odd periods & Monday, 5/13 for even periods); please be sure that you READ through the corresponding chapters in the textbook as well! There is a test on the day your study guide is due.   A.P. Euro= You will be writing an in-class DBQ & FRQ on Tuesday, 5/7 to wrap up the exam that is part of your AP final. Later in the week we will go over the exam & you will get your scores back. We are in the home stretch of preparing for the exam. Please take advantage of the review links that are being sent out via School Loop.

U.S. History= You have a Chapter 15 Quiz next week (Tuesday, 4/30 for odd periods & Wednesday, 5/1 for even periods); please be sure that you  READ the entire chapter so you are prepared! Check School Loop email for an extra credit opportunity this Thursday! A.P. Euro= Your 1st practice exam was due in class to day (Tuesday, 4/23)! Please be prepared to be ready to work & cooperate as you come to class each day. Some of you are too distracted by work for other classes, your phones, or trying to weasel your way out of getting the work done! We have a very limited amount of time left to prepare for the AP Exam so the time is precious...don't waste it. A list of review times is posted in class, but be prepared to see some changes to that list on Thursday. U.S. History=  You have a 3rd Quarter Study Guide due next week (Wednesday, 4/10 for odd periods & Thursday, 4/11 for even periods). We are moving on to our unit about the Civil Rights movement...please be reading Chapter 14! Don't forget to be in communication with your group about your project! A.P. Euro=  We are down to our final 2 chapters to cover int he textbook! Your Chapter 30 (you already have) & 31 (to be passed out later this week) study guides are due next week on Thursday, 4/11! Please keep up with your reading of the textbook! Those of you who did not turn in your green registration forms to your counselor today need to get that done ASAP...it is very important for you to get the classes you want for next year!

U.S. History= Several important things to keep in mind this week. You have the second part of the Cold War & 1950s Test this week (Monday & Tuesday). Also, the rough draft of your script & storyboard for the video project is due on Wednesday, 3/27/13 (no matter what period you are in)!  A few project examples will be shown in class this week to give you a few ideas to work off of. U.S. History= Several important things to keep in mind this week, besides the fact that there will be a Cold War Quiz in class. First of all you need to have your blue registration form completely filled out with the required signatures as you will be seeing your counselor about your schedule for senior year on 3/13 & 3/14. Secondly, the project commitment forms are due to Miss Kirby by Thursday, March 14th. And finally you have a Cold War study guide to be working on that is due 3/21 (for odd periods) and 3/22 (for even periods). A.P. Euro=   Remember that you should be expecting to take a Chapter 28 reading quiz next class (that may be on Thursday since you are occupied with CAHSEE testing the next two days). Please be prepared to take the quiz Tuesday (as originally planned), just in case! Also, would you please bring your textbooks with you Tuesday. We will be using them in class (definitely during 6th period & 4th period students can use them as your reading material
