U.S. History=   Your 2nd Quarter project will be assigned this week before the break. If you have missed a quiz or test it MUST be made up before the break! A.P. Euro=   You will receive a a take home essay assignment later this week that is to be completed over the break. You will also have the Chapter 22 & 23 Study Guides due on Thursday, January 8, 2015.

U.S. History=     There is  a Chapter 7 Quiz on Thursday, 12/11 (for odd periods) & Friday, 12/12 (for even periods). Be sure that you read through the chapter (especially the vocabulary) & your notes to be prepared! ***3rd period...please remember to be saving some of your money for Adopt-A-Family; we have a family of 5 (3 kids) and the plan is to have everything (money & gifts) brought in by Thursday, 12/11!   A.P. It’s a last minute EXTRA CREDIT alert! Who… YOU! What… attend the “Shakespeare by the Harbor” show When… 11/20, 11/21, or 11/22 at 7pm or 11/22 at 2pm (the cost is $5 for a student for any show) Where… the Robert B. Wentz Theater (that’s the one on campus) Why… to earn a little extra credit attend one of the performances that is just over an hour long. In addition to watching the show, in order to earn some extra credit, answer the following questions in a write up that is due to me by Tuesday, 11/25. a. Which performance did you attend & who did you go with? b. What were your thoughts about Shakespeare prior to this show? c. Did this performance change your opinion about Shakespeare? Why or why not? d. Who was your favorite character in this performance? Why? (be sure to include the character’s name, what play they were from, & the name of the student who played that character) e. Turn in your write up & show me your lime green attendance slip. So

Make sure that you list the resources you used on the back of your flier! Additionally, your 1st Quarter Study Guide is due Wednesday, 11/5 (for 5th period) and Thursday, 11/6 (for 2nd period). A.P. U.S. History=  Your 1st Quarter project will be introduced this week (Native American Tribal Flier) and is due on Tuesday, 11/4 for 2nd period & Wednesday, 11/5 for 1st, 3rd, & 5th periods. Expect to see a new Study Guide this week since we are starting Chapter 3! A.P. Euro=   You have a Chapter 16 Vocabulary Quiz on Thursday, 10/16!  Your Chapter 16 Study Guide (with map) was passed out last week and by the end of the week you will also have one for Chapter 17. They are both due on Tuesday, 10/28.

Additionally, you should be working on your Chapter 2 Study Guide (to be completed in your composition book and Civil War Map they are due on your test day...Monday, 10/13 (for odd periods) and Wednesday, 10/15 (for even periods). Be sure that you are working on those items now & not waiting until the night before to do all of the work!  A.P. Thursday, October 2nd is Back to School Night! U.S. History=  A Missouri Compromise & Kansas-Nebraska Act worksheet will be give out in class this week...it is due Wednesday for odd periods & Thursday for even periods. You will receive your Chapter 2 Study Guide and Civil War Map in class this week and they are due on your test day...Monday, 10/13 (for odd periods) and Wednesday, 10/15 (for even periods). Be sure that you are working on those items now & not waiting until the night before to do all of the work!  A.P. Euro=   Expect a Chapter 14 Reading Quiz on Tuesday, 9/30.   Your Chapter 14 & 15 Study Guides (with maps) are due on test day, which is Wednesday, 10/8! U.S. History=   Your Chapter 1 Study Guide  (to be completed in your composition book)  is due on Thursday, 9/25 (for odd periods) and Friday, 9/26 (for even periods)... this is a date change! Additionally the "Events Leading to the American Revolution Timeline" assignment is also to be completed in your composition book. There will be map questions on the original 13 colonies (which became the first 13 states) on your test! Also, you can write out the Preamble to the Constitution for extra credit on the test. Here is a link to the School House Rocks song. A.P. Euro= Remember that your Chapter 12 & Chapter 13 study guides are due on Monday, 9/22  (in your composition book) . Don't forget to also bring the Chapter 13 map. After our test on Monday, 9/22 we will be moving on to Chapter 14 & the Reformation...expect a new study guide on Wednesday.

Euro=  The Europe Map assignment is due on Tuesday, 9/16...there will also be a reading quiz in class that day. Please keep up with the reading schedule & do your best to answer the Study Guide questions  (in your composition book)  as you are going through the reading; remember that you now have both the Chapter 12 & Chapter 13 study guides and they are due on Monday, 9/22 (test day). Here is a link to online games that can help you review for the map quiz. You received the Chapter 1 Study Guide (to be completed in your composition book)  in class, that is due on Tuesday, 9/23 (for odd periods) and Wednesday, 9/24 (for even periods) A.P. Euro=  There will be a Quest (longer than a quiz, but shorter than a test) covering The Prince & Candide on Wednesday, 9/10. Additionally your essays on the two books are due to be turned in via www.turnitin.com by 11:59pm that same day. You do not need to bring a hard copy to class, just upload them to the site. The course number & password are written on the board in class. We will be checking out textbooks and jumping in to some American geography this week.  There will be a U.S. Map Quiz next week (Thursday, 9/11 for odd periods & Friday, 9/12 for even periods). Be sure that you get a College Ruled Composition Book to have just for our class by next week.  A.P. FYI...Saturday, June 14th is Flag Day! And the following day, Sunday, June 15th is Father's Day! U.S. History=   Your final study guides were given out and are due on Thursday, 6/12 for odd periods and Friday, 6/13 for even periods. Your textbooks and stamped work are due the same day!  On that given day you will be taking the first part of your final.  Part 1 of the final is on Thursday & Friday and part 2 of the final is on your assigned final day the following week.  Come prepared with questions you might have about the study guides and the material on Tuesday, 6/10 & Wednesday, 6/11.  A.P. Euro=    Your final group project is due on Monday, June 16th for 1st period & Wednesday, June 18th for 3rd period (or sooner if you'd like to turn it in early); please be sure that you are in a group & signed up for a topic (check your School Loop email) no later than 6/10.        Please bring your textbooks & stamped work to class on Thursd

Expect an announcement about the project in class this week.  AP Euro=  We'll be finishing the movie in class on Tuesday and introducing the individual project in class...it's something you can have fun with!  You will be signing up for your topics on Thursday, 5/22. EXTRA CREDIT ALERT!

Saturday, May 17th is Armed Services Day and in honor of that the Newport Harbor Exchange Club will be hosting their 5th Annual "Field of Honor" display. The Exchange Club of Newport Harbor will line the scenic trail at Castaways Park with 1,776 American flags this coming weekend in honor of military veterans. They are calling it the “Field of Honor,” and it is one of 16 similar efforts that will be sponsored by Exchange Clubs nationwide this year. As members of the Exchange Club have said, “It’s not pro-war, or anti-war, it’s strictly to honor our service men and women.”  I am offering 10 points of extra credit for you to go out and see this awesome display at the park located at Dover Drive and Castaways Lane. To get the extra credit please have someone take a picture of you near the statue (as seen in the photo below) on the bluffs with all the flags around. You may have the photo taken showing any direction that includes flags . This must be done Friday, May 16

Just a reminder...next Sunday, 5/11 is Mother's  Day! U.S. History=   You have a Study Guide due on Thursday, 5/8 (for odd periods) & Friday, 5/9 (for even periods) and you all know by now that if there is a Study Guide due you also have a test.      Don't forget to be communicating with your group & staying on task with the Film Project! AP Euro=   Remember that there is a Writing Workshop in our class at 6pm on Monday, 5/5 in our classroom. You may also want to consider using some of the links I have sent via School Loop emails to help review. This week in class you have your final practice exam; on Tuesday, 5/6 you will take the 80 question multiple choice portion & write your 1st FRQ essay. On Thursday, 5/8 you will be writing the DBQ & your 2nd FRQ essay.  Please be sure to get good rest & eat breakfast before class!

U.S. History=   Your "Great Society" worksheet is due on 4/28 (for odd periods) & 4/29 (for even periods). Also keep in mind that you have a Chapter 15 Quiz on the same day...so be sure to read the chapter.       Don't forget to be communicating with your group & staying on task with the Film Project! AP Euro=   Your 2nd practice exam will be given out in class on Monday & it is due on Wednesday, 4/30. Please be sure to carve out 1 hour to sit down in a distraction free environment to complete this assignment! Also be sure to check your School Loop email for all the review links I have been sending after each class.  And since this seems to be quite a common theme in my classes right now...
